Accompanied by a young neighbour Achi, the unlikely pair explore the hidden depths of Istanbul with the help of trans lawyer and activist Evrim.

Crossing premiered at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Teddy Award, the top prize for an LGBT film, and received its UK premiere at BFI Flare 2024. The film releases in cinemas nationwide from July 19.

IN CAMERA + Q&A WITH DIRECTOR NAQQASH KHALID

13 JUL 2024

A preview of the playful and poignant In Camera, followed by a Q&A from the film’s writer-director, Manchester’s own Naqqash Khalid.

Shot in Manchester, In Camera stars Nabhaan Rizwan as Aden, a British-Asian twenty-something with dreams of becoming a successful actor. But the nightmarish grind of the audition process and an industry rife with prejudice and hypocrisy begins to take its toll.

Aden’s flatmate, junior doctor Bo (Rory Fleck Byrne) is also stressed to the point of burnout. But when confident newcomer Conrad (Amir El-Masry) moves in, his unusual world view inspires Aden to find a new part to play.

Candid and acidly funny, with an unsettling eye for the warped and bizarre, this striking debut satirises not just showbiz but also the absurdities of modern British life, with a supple central performance from rising star Rizwan, and music by Clark.

This is the debut feature from Manchester’s own Naqqash Khalid, who was a Factory International Creative Fellow 2019 and a Screen Star of Tomorrow 2020.
